Libby Braybrooks’ S&S 34, Star of the Sea, has continued her recent purple patch to record a perfect score across all handicap and line honours points tables in the 2016 Sprint Series. The series was contested in moderate south easterly breezes in the lower reaches of the Hawkesbury river.
SotS totally outclassed the small fleet crossing the line first in every race by a margin of at least two minutes. She won Race 1 on PHS by 1 minute 40 in Race 1 and won Races 2 and 3 on PHS by more than two minutes. Runner up placings were shared around with Amoeba finishing second in Race 1, Eikon finishing Second in Race 2, and Cecilia finishing behind SotS in Race 3. SotS also won every race on CBH. But in this event results were a little closer with Amoeba just failing by around 20 seconds in Race 1 to spoil SotS perfect record.
All Our Girl’s damage to deck, mast step and compression post footing meant she was a non-starter, and Charlie Hill volunteered to do the starters duty, freeing the SotS crew from starting boat duty. So the AOG crew likes to think they were responsible for Star’s victory!
The cumulative times from all three races were use to calculate results for Windward Passage Race 4. There was a very close contest for second place as Amoeba ( 2nd), Cecilia (3rd) and Eikon (4th) finished within 1 minute and 20 secs of each other on PHS.
